HISTORY OF CHIROPRACTIC
Most people are unaware that chiropractic care has been around for centuries. Since the first reported use of chiropractic techniques, the methodology, application, and uses have continued to improve, advance, and evolve. With misinformation and doubt becoming less of an occurrence, chiropractic care has become a very respected branch in health and science. Chiropractic methods and approaches have gained traction with scientific proof via various research and studies. The benefits have further been backed by science and show to be an effective approach to achieving holistic and optimal health.
At Velocity Chiropractic, we are thrilled to provide a brief history of chiropractic methodology, philosophy, benefits, and practice. We hope this gives a level of transparency and displays how truly useful chiropractic care can be to the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti communities.
A Brief History of Chiropractic Science
As far as documentation goes, the first (debatable) reported use of chiropractic techniques was in 1895. Dr. D. D. Palmer was the first individual to define spinal misalignment, also known as vertebral subluxation, and was also the first person to diagnose and deliver a chiropractic adjustment with success. Dr. Palmer noticed the impact that spinal pressure had on the nerves. He also recognized that this pressure was often due to misalignment of the spine.
Over the next few decades, Dr. Palmer’s son and daughter-in-law conducted more research, advancing chiropractic care and their approaches. Eventually, they established the Palmer School of Chiropractic, which became the leading research institute for scientific approaches to chiropractic care and holistic methods to healthcare.
From the opening of the Palmer school, many other facilities and institutions also opened their doors. These schools and educational hotspots made further advancements, creating new methods, approaches, and techniques. This also lead to technological improvements, increased effectiveness and safety, better diagnostic tools, and overall improved care for spinal misalignments. Today, chiropractic care continues to evolve. Endless people have experienced the direct impact and benefits of this type of care for their spinal issues and overall well-being and health.
